U.S. Air Force Shut Down 'Space Fence' Surveillance System

Why would they do that just when Comet ISON is approaching?

It seems that the United States has taken steps to drastically step back its space program, even after a record year in 2012 of meteors and meteorites recovered. In September of 2012, the world was also introduced to “the comet of the century”, known now as Comet C/2012 S1; or ISON.[4]
There are many beliefs and speculations involving Comet ISON, and many scientists and star-gazers believe it will be the “comet of the century”. ISON will reach its perihelion (closest approach to the sun) on November 28, 2013, so have your turkey and the sky walking spectacular! Recently, many have been asking questions about ISON and previous meteorites that have crashed into earth as previously reported by Intellihub.com Journalist Avalon in an article he authored entitled, Meteor Sightings in the 1000′s across the U.S.. As of yet, NASA and NOAA have yet to publish any reports of what could be causing the recent influx of objects.[5]
The manner in which the United States is slaughtering our space program and shutting down programs like the Space Fence due to budget cuts and sequester is not only incompetent, but endangering U.S. Citizens. The space fence acts as an early warning system for any possible collisions, like the 2009, collision of an U.S. Iridium communications satellite with a Russian Cosmos 2251 communications satellite.
With the recent increase in meteor sightings, and explosions from fireballs filling the skies, we now also have to worry about space junk that otherwise would be detected, falling down on us.

Heads Up: The U.S. Air Force already shut down its space surveillance system that tracks satellites and other orbiting objects by October 1 due to budget constraints caused by automatic federal budget cuts known as the sequestration. SPACE FENCE DISCONTINUED: The US Air Force Space Surveillance Radar or "Space Fence" has stopped transmitting. "It appears they pulled the plug at 00:00 UT (6 am Local MDT) on September 1st," reports engineer Stan Nelson, who has been monitoring the radar using an antenna in Roswell, New Mexico. The shutdown is a result of sequester budget cuts by the US Congress. The radar's final echoes came from a Russian satellite and a sporadic meteor. The Air Force Space Surveillance System, colloquially known as the Space Fence, is a multistatic radar system that detects orbital objects passing over America. It is a component of the US space surveillance network, and is claimed to be able to detect objects as small as 10 cm (four inches) at heights up to 30,000 km (15,000 nautical miles.) The surveillance system got the nickname "Space Fence" because it transmits a "fence" of radar energy vertically into space that can detect any object or debris that crosses it without being cued to do so.

WASHINGTON | Mon Aug 12, 2013 8:11pm EDT
(Reuters) - The U.S. Air Force will shut down its space surveillance system that tracks satellites and other orbiting objects by October 1 due to budget constraints caused by automatic federal budget cuts known as the sequestration, it announced Monday.
Deactivating the system by October 1 would save the Air Force Space Command $14 million annually starting in fiscal year 2014.

The surveillance system got the nickname "Space Fence" because it transmits a "fence" of radar energy vertically into space that can detect any object or debris that crosses it without being cued to do so.
